obama today 31.01.2009
U.S. President Barack Obama said America was prepared to extend a hand of peace to Iran if it "unclenched its fist" and that the time was ripe for Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace negotiations.
Choosing an Arab station for his first formal TV interview as president, Obama also sought to heal U.S. ties with the Arab and Muslim world, telling them "Americans are not your enemy."
During the eight-year administration of former President George W. Bush, U.S. relations with many Arab and Muslim nations were damaged by the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and Bush's initial reluctance to push for Israeli-Palestinian peace.
"It is impossible for us to think only in terms of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and not think in terms of what's happening with Syria or Iran or Lebanon or Afghanistan and Pakistan," he told the Dubai-based satellite channel Al Arabiya.

satyam ramalinga Rajus directed diversion from jail
HYDERABAD: Being incarcerated in jail doesn't seem to have deterred Satyam's ex-chairman B Ramalinga Raju and his brother B Rama Raju from
`directing' their men to conceal and destroy evidence. Well, that's what SRSM general manager D Gopalakrishna Raju has reportedly confessed to the police.
Gopalakrishna Raju mentioned this in his `confession' report to the CID.
In fact, the special public prosecutor Ajay Kumar also made a mention of the Raju brothers giving directions from jail to destroy evidence during the hearing of their bail plea on Tuesday in the Nampally criminal court.
The Raju brothers were arrested on January 9 and were remanded to judicial custody on January 10. They were taken into police custody on January 18 for four days which was further extended to one more day. They are back in jail now.

Arsenal close in on Arshavin
ARSENE WENGER claims the deal for Andrei Arshavin is "90 per cent" done.
The Gunners are on the verge of a £15million swoop for the Russia ace.
But it remains to be seen whether they can complete their move for the Zenit St Petersburg forward before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.
Wenger said: "There is nothing new on Arshavin.
"The deal is maybe 90 per cent completed. However, the final 10 per cent of any deal can be the most difficult.
"Maybe in the next two days. In this kind of job it can be difficult at this stage because people can change their minds completely."

Obama Promises New Era of Openness
United States President Barack Obama announced today that his administration will roll back the secrecy that has ruled during the Bush Administration and implement a new era of government openness and transparency.
Referring to the Freedom of Information Act as one of the most important tools of oversight the nation possesses, Obama called on all government agencies to err on the side of openness and release information whenever possible, which directly contradicts orders by the previous administration to look for reasons to withhold information whenever possible. Just because you have the legal right to withhold information, doesn't mean you should, Obama said at a White House press conference and staff swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.
"For a long time now, there's been too much secrecy in this city," he said.
Obama also said that any time the administration feels the need to withhold information about his presidency or a past presidency, it will consult legal counsel to ensure its decision is on solid ground.

Emergency Appeal -Gaza Crisis
The situation in Gaza is desperate and the bloodshed escalating as the death toll now stands at over 800 and rising. Almost half of them are civilians, and over 500 women and children are dead. As Israeli tanks, airplanes and artillery bombard thickly populated urban areas, thousands more have been injured and need medical care. Many people are without food, water and warmth in the midst of the Gazan Winter.
The Lady Fatemah Trust has launched an appeal to help these innocent victims. We are currently providing much needed humanitarian Assistance and then we will be helping these people to rebuild their lives, inshallah.
Please help us to help the people of Gaza who have been affected by the current crisis.
